Ground Beef

Ground beef is one of the quickest, easiest and most versatile meats available!

If you’ve been wondering What to make with ground beef, we’ve got you covered! Our most popular Hamburger Soup is a family favorite for everyone! It is the perfect addition to Beef Enchilada Casserole (and many other Mexican inspired dishes), makes an amazing Ground Beef Stroganoff and of course it completes our favorite pasta sauce!

If you prefer, most recipes will work just fine with ground turkey, chicken or other ground meats.

Ground beef is generally sold as regular , lean and extra lean. My preference is lean with just enough fat to keep it tender but not greasy!

All Ground Beef

Regular ground beef is about 25-30% fat, lean is 15-20% fat (and sometimes known as ground chuck) and extra lean is about 10-14% fat (ground sirloin or round).

How to Brown Ground Beef

Remember to always brown your ground beef over a medium heat (not high) for the best results and be sure to cook your beef to 160°F. Depending on the type of beef used, you will have a little bit of fat in the pan which you'll want to drain before making your recipe.

How to Defrost Ground Beef

This versatile protein can be quickly defrosted in the microwave if you're going to be cooking it right away.  If not, place it in the refrigerator and 1lb should be defrosted within about 4 hours (unless it's really thick). Most often, I place it in a sealed freezer bag in a sink of ice cold water for about 30 minutes... this is the quickest and easiest way to defrost it!

How to Freeze Ground Beef

When purchasing ground beef, it can be stored in the fridge for about 2 days or in the freezer for up to six months.

Browned ground beef can also be frozen for quick weeknight meals!  Season and add onions and garlic (if desired) and brown as directed above. Cool completely and freeze in an airtight container.
